Whenever possible, I like to take photos of the Reactions to my Caricatures. Delighted Guests. Happy Surprises. It helps me re-live the experience.

When I arrived at the venue/bar for this Party, I felt like it was going to be one of those Drawing in the Dark events oh. But no ~ as I walked in, I saw that they had an outdoor 'porch' on the water ~ oooh ~ uhoh about that too ~ do i have my sunscreen with me, or would i have to take the time to go back to my car to get it? It was like 100-degrees out there that day.

But no ~ not that either Yay. Turned out to be a great Event. My Client had arranged for a well-lit Indoor area for the Caricatures afterall ~ her Guests could easily see the Activity from outside on the porch as well as from inside in the bar. It was all open so meandering back and forth was natural. And my Client kindly arranged for a Big Fan to be directed towards me. I felt so comfortable. I felt like I was able to do my best work, and I felt like the Guests felt comfortable and welcome also. Easy-going.

Here are a few of the Caricatures that I drew. And the Reactions of the Guests. People having a Good Time at the Party:

I am developing a great Happy Party style for my Caricatures. In transition, and feeling quite Successful. Here's today's journey. I was making New Caricatures based on photos of people that I previously Caricatured. btw, the people that I put together in today's drawings don't necessarily know each other. I just chose photos at random ~ to practice Group Caricatures:

Ready to jump in. I remembered how great it felt for the pictures to just pour out for the past few days. No Predraw. But I didn't think about the size for the first face I drew. I didn't leave room for the other two that I planned to put into the picture. Aghk. I couldn't wait to finish. Pushing it. I'm just going to

Tried it again. Planning to size them 'evenly. But egads, What happened here:

Sized evenly. Decent Caricatures. But meaningless empty space on the paper:

This time, I gave in to a Predraw. Just a Litl bit of a Predraw:

I really should call it a night. But once more. One more group Caricature. It came out alright:

Tried it Again. I love it! This is the New Style I want to develop. Such a happy picture. If these people happened to be a family, they would have loved to have such a unique picture:

I have transitioned. I can develop this new style.

But how to apply today's studies to my Party Performance?

I'm figuring that I would Not use a predraw for One Or Two Faces on a page. But I Would use that slight amount of placement predraw for Three Or More Faces on a page.

and of course, it would be best if I draw in the style that is working at that moment. Gotta be in a Zone to draw well. If I'm hoping to use this style when I'm 'On', perhaps it would be a good idea to do a few warm-up pictures Before I go in to an Event.

Looking forward to tomorrow's Party (Grown-Ups Birthday), I drew 4 Caricatures here to warm up. They're just pictures of people that were in a documentary that I was watching.

My time was good ~ I was able to draw them well with No Predraw

Then I made up a face ~ to warm up my Colors. Nice.
